Copenhagen panoramic photo

Copenhagen is rightly considered one of the most convenient and adapted for life cities in the world. The compact size of the capital allows you to explore local attractions step by step in the literal sense. You will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of Copenhagen's cultural values: palaces demonstrating the strength and grandeur of the Danish monarchy, strong art collections, Nordic restaurants, which have long become the property of not only the Scandinavian, but also the world gastronomic scene. Having tasted the capital gloss, rent a car and go explore the surroundings: the local nature is the inspiration for the impeccable Scandinavian style.

IATA Code: CPH
Location: 8 km from the center of Copenhagen
Official site: www.cph.dk/en/

At Copenhagen Airport, car rental services are provided by international rental companies: Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Budget, Sixt, Enterprise. The stands of these car rental companies are located in Terminal 3.

If you are going to the airport by car from Copenhagen to get straight into the parking zone, take exit 17 from the E20 motorway, at the roundabout, take exit 3, then continue to Terminal 3. Copenhagen Airport representatives recommend using the parking pre-booking service places for your rented car on the official website of the airport: so parking will cost you less. On the Kastrup portal you will be offered three ways to park the car: budget, standard and full. The lower the price, the farther your parking space is located from the terminal. The cost of parking per week varies from 48 € to 200 €. Kastrup Airport also offers a short-term parking service: the first 15 minutes, parking is free, then on-site payment according to the tariff.

What to see in Copenhagen: interesting sights of the city

Tivoli Park

Vesterbrogade 3

Tivoli Park photo

Feel the indescribable charm of the ancient Tivoli amusement park. At the end of the 19th century, when the park still could not boast of tricked out rides, numerous theater troupes and musical groups were engaged in entertaining the public. The tradition of noble entertainment has been preserved in Tivoli today: there are several theaters in the park where you can enjoy ballet, pantomime, musicals, and concerts. Then, by all means, develop a fleur of stiffness on a roller coaster.

Royal Danish Royal Black Bookcase

Søren Kierkegaards Plads 1

Royal Danish Royal Library Building Black Diamond photo

A major cultural center of Copenhagen, where it is not necessary to sit at the books. The Black Diamond building, adjacent to the old building of the Danish Royal Library, is a unique neo-modern architectural monument whose facade is clad in African black granite and glass. Behind the monolithic walls are a book depository, the National Museum of Photography, stylish restaurants, a bookstore, and a concert hall. In order not to miss anything, we recommend taking a tour of the library.

New Carlsberg Glyptotek

Dantes plads 7

New Carlsberg Glyptotek photo

Karl Jacobsen, founder of the Carlsberg beer brand, was not stranger to the spirit of patronage of art. He put together an impressive collection of works of art that national galleries could envy, and founded a museum to exhibit it. The Jacobsen collection is an example of inimitable taste. The main directions of the collection are paintings by French impressionists, sculpture by Auguste Rodin and Edgar Degas, Danish art, as well as a variety of ancient monuments exported from Egypt, Rome and Greece.

Nyhavn District

Nyhavn district photo

Nyhavn, or New Harbor, retained the spirit of old Denmark. For several centuries this place was the haven of sailors: ships stopped here, the banks of the canal were dotted with bars, where sailors had noisy fun day and night. Today in this area there is no place for former profligations, although the scenery has remained the same: old colorful houses, caravels, vacationers in the harbor for several centuries, an abundance of bars and restaurants. Now New Harbor is a visiting card of Copenhagen, a tourist attraction center where you can enjoy traditional Danish dishes and spend an hour or two contemplating the life of the most fabulous district of the capital.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

Nikolaj Plads 10

Nikolaj Kunsthal photo

Seeing the facade of this building, you are unlikely to guess what is hidden behind it. The Church of St. Nicholas has the most unusual filling in the world. The fact is that since the mid-20th century, the rebuilt church with a memorable neo-Baroque style spire is the largest center for exhibiting contemporary art in Denmark. This idea turned out to be very successful, because the spacious bright halls of the church are ideal for exhibitions of experimental forms of contemporary art, for example, performances, video art and large-scale installations. However, some traditional church rituals are still performed here: in one of the halls there is an active concert hall with a Baroque organ.

Near Copenhagen: Best Car Routes

Legoland

Nordmarksvej 9, Billund

Legoland photo

All adults are happy as children when they visit the world's largest amusement park, where the main building material is the Lego Cube. Legoland is a whole universe: and if you are not inspired by traveling through real and fantasy worlds recreated from the details of the legendary designer, other adventures are also available in the park: jump on attractions or explore the animal world in a zoo and an aquarium. The only bad news is that after relaxing in the park, you still have to change the toy car to a regular one. Your rental car will be waiting for you in the paid parking lot adjacent to Legoland.

Funen Village

Sejerskovvej 20, Odense

Funen Village photo

Taste the rural life of the times of Hans Christian Andersen by visiting the town of Funen. In the village of Funen you will not see props and acting: everything is real here. When you walk around this area, residents will be immersed in the traditional work of the villagers: care for animals, vegetable gardens and farms, bake cakes, work on embroidery. In the village of Funen, strangers do not shy, the residents are very hospitable and will be happy to teach you what they are doing, and if you are very good at this, they will give you a couple of secret recipes for Danish pastries. To get to Funen, drive your car in the direction of Odense, to the 50 or 51 motorway exits.

Kronborg

Kronborg 2C, Helsingør

Kronborg photo

In this palace, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, indulged in melancholy. Today, walking through the bright halls of Kronborg, I do not want to plunge into sad thoughts about the frailty of everything. The interiors of the palace shine with splendor and, rather, talk about the romantic story of the Danish King Frederick II and the young Queen Sophie. Only the dark dungeons in which tombs and casemates were located remind of the gloomy past of the ancient castle. We recommend planning your visit to Kronborg so as not to miss the production of Shakespeare's Hamlet in the interiors of the palace, as well as costumed tours conducted by Horatio himself, the best friend of the Prince of Denmark. For those who rent a car, a five-minute walk from Kronborg provides inexpensive parking.

Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg photo

The magnificent castle, which the Danes fondly call the "Northern Versailles". Although Danish monarchs have been crowned in this palace for several centuries, it is not a very popular attraction in the country. In Frederiksberg you can enjoy the architecture of the Northern Renaissance, walks in the baroque garden next to the lake, organ concerts in the palace chapel, a guided tour of the museum of Danish art and history. Using the car rental service, on the way to the castle you can get acquainted with the town of Hillered, its dense forests and ancient buildings.

Roskilde

Roskilde photo

Sit back in your rental car and head to the old town of Roskilde. In the distant past, this city was the residence of Danish kings. The main attraction of Roskilde is the Cathedral, which began its history in the 12th century. Next to this magnificent building is the Viking Ship Museum, which houses both original sea vessels and detailed reconstructions, on which you can sail from the harbor adjacent to the museum. The museums and palaces of Roskilde certainly deserve your attention, but do not try to get around all the significant sights in one day: select a couple of historical places, and after visiting them go for a walk along the charming streets of the town. Food: atmospheric restaurants, cafes and bars

Restaurant geranium

Per Henrik Lings Allé 4, 8

Restaurant Geranium photo

Surprisingly, one of the most famous restaurants in the world, which received the highest rating from Michelin, is located on the 8th floor of the National Football Arena. In order to go on an extraordinary gastronomic journey, you need to take care of the reservation in advance. There is no menu in Geranium: you pay for a set consisting of 10 or 20 dishes, each of them is an exquisite experiment, a game with your receptors. The Secret Set is a collection of outstanding achievements in molecular cuisine. Geranium chefs invite you to reveal its secrets, because anyone can enter the restaurant’s open kitchen.

The standart

Havnegade 44

The Standart photo

An ideal choice for those who like to change the scenery several times in the evening. There are 4 restaurants under the roof of The Standart: Almanak and Studio with Scandinavian cuisine, Verandah - with a pan-Indian and jazz bar Jazzklub. The restaurant menu changes regularly: the creators of The Standart draw inspiration from Danish nature and select only local products that are typical for each season. Each institution has its own unique history, all of them have Dinner & Jazz concepts combined: for example, you start your evening with dinner, and then gradually move to another wing of the building to enjoy jazz with a glass of wine.

Ruby

Nybrogade 10

Ruby photo

The Ruby Bar has an atmosphere of the 1920s. You seem to have received an invitation to skip a couple of glasses in the dim light of the Lord's living room. Sit down in a leather chair and start studying the bar menu: believe me, it's worth it. Thanks to the vivid description of each drink, you will certainly make the right choice for your evening.

Risteriet

Risteriet Photo

Charming network coffee shop with plain breakfasts and lunches. Risteriet is a place where coffee is not put on stream, and you will feel it even before you get a cup of your hot drink. An individual approach to visitors, a large coffee menu, dozens of varieties of beans to choose from, a sophisticated bar resembling an alchemist's table make these coffee houses one of the best in all of Denmark. Be sure to pay attention to the wine list presented in some institutions, perhaps you will have a desire to change the hot to the hot?

Torvehallerne

Frederiksborggade 21

Torvehallerne photo

Torvehallerne Market is a true gastronomic paradise. This market complex includes numerous shops with farm products and delicacies from all over Europe, as well as small restaurants and coffee houses of various classes. We recommend that you stop by for lunch at Café Palæo, on its menu there are dishes that could be part of the meal of our Stone Age ancestors. If you are not in the mood for gastronomic experiments, visit GRØD, a Danish chain restaurant whose main dish is porridge with toppings to your taste.
